Task

Client brief

The Department of Entrepreneurship and Industrial-Innovation Development of the West Kazakhstan Region came with a specific brief: build a website that helps people discover Western Kazakhstan. Not an abstract "tourism portal," but a practical tool for those already planning a trip or still choosing a destination. The WKR is more than just Uralsk. It's the history and museum complex in Bokeiorda District, the Alash Orda house in Zhympity, the mausoleum of Zhumaghazy Hazret, the Akum desert, and Kupyskerei cave — places many Kazakhstanis know little about. The project includes sections on the region, sights, routes, tour operators, hotels, and transportation. A tour route registry with prices and contacts. An interactive map of attractions. The highlight: a 3D tour of the region's historic sites — visitors can "walk through" a museum in Bokeiorda District and explore exhibits without making the trip.
Outcome

What we shipped

Launched a trilingual tourism portal with a route registry, an interactive map of attractions, and a 3D tour of historic sites; sections for tour operators, hotels, and transportation were implemented; the project was developed as part of the Ruhani Zhangyru programme.
Solution

How we did it

The visit-uralsk.kz project launched in 2019 as part of the Ruhani Zhangyru programme and became a significant project for the region. The idea was simple: help the region shed its "blank spot" reputation among tourists. The interactive map required dedicated work — objects, categories, filters, and mobile layout all had to come together. A tourist standing at a monument with their phone in hand was the primary user, so mobile optimization was critical. The 3D tour was built in stages, starting with key sites, with further expansion planned down the line. The site was presented in early 2019 at the regional chamber of entrepreneurs. According to the Department of Entrepreneurship, tourist numbers in the region grew 75% over five years. Many factors played a role, but it's gratifying to know our site was part of that growth.
